Paramount Pictures adapting live-action movie set in Cyberpunk 2077 universe
Paramount Pictures is set to adapt a live-action film based on the Cyberpunk 2077 universe. The project will be co-produced by CD Projekt Red.
According to Deadline, the production will involve Transformers producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura. CD Projekt Red co-CEO Michał Nowakowski expressed excitement regarding the partnership, stating that Paramount shares the studio's creative ambitions for the Cyberpunk franchise. Specific details regarding the plot or cast have not yet been announced.
This marks another expansion of the franchise beyond gaming, following the success of the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime series produced with Trigger for Netflix. While CD Projekt Red continues development on a Cyberpunk 2077 sequel via its Boston studio, the company's primary focus remains on The Witcher 4.
The announcement comes amidst significant industry shifts. Following the $111 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, Paramount has merged Paramount Games Studio and WB Games under the Skydance umbrella. The company's leadership emphasized a transmedia strategy aimed at building fandom across games, film, and consumer products.
