Once Human: How to Prepare for First Person Mode Without Breaking Your Rhythm

First person is best treated as a new tool, not a mandatory replacement for third person.

Before the Update

First Person Mode for Once Human is scheduled after the July 9 PT update. Before it arrives, players should not rebuild their whole style around the camera, but they can prepare by deciding where first person helps and where third person remains better.

The key expectation is that the new mode is not mandatory. The developers keep the existing third-person experience and provide switching methods, so the best use will be situational.

Settings and Switching

On PC, quick switching is planned through Alt+C. The PC Function Wheel will also add a view switch function. On mobile, the switch button must be added manually through custom layout because it is hidden by default.

Settings will include default camera view, first-person field of view, and model-to-camera distance. The first practical step after the patch is to tune FOV before serious combat.

How Combat Habits Change

For first-person melee, the team redesigned animations and operation. All melee weapons support slashing while moving, light attacks stay close to the original continuous attacks, and heavy strikes use hold to charge and release to strike. A quick heavy-strike click can still trigger a heavy strike slash.

That means players should train melee separately after the update. Do not copy the old third-person rhythm one-to-one.

Where First Person Should Help Most

The supported list includes basic movement, jumping, climbing, weapon handling and firing, item use, gathering, and collecting supplies. The most obvious benefits are interiors, medium-range shooting, resource gathering, and careful corner checks.

In the open world, third person may still be better for environmental awareness. A practical split is first person for combat, looting, and dense spaces; third person for route planning, vehicles, and peripheral control.

Limits to Remember

Some story performances, specific Deviation skills, expressions, and interactions may temporarily return the camera to third person. That is not a player error; the developers say adaptation will continue.

Post-Patch Checklist

  • Check Alt+C on PC or add the mobile layout button.
  • Tune field of view before serious combat.
  • Practice melee heavy strikes separately.
  • Test gathering, consumables, and looting in a safe area.
  • Keep third person for wide-awareness situations.
