NVIDIA RTX 5080 prices hit nearly $2,000 at US retailers
Retail prices for NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 graphics cards in the US have surged, with confirmed stock now selling for nearly $2,000. In just two months, prices have climbed by approximately $800, effectively matching the launch price of the flagship RTX 5090.
Price hikes and current availability
A price check across major retailers, including Micro Center, Best Buy, Central Computers, and Newegg, conducted on October 28, reveals that finding an RTX 5080 at its original $999 MSRP (set during its January 2025 launch) is currently impossible. Verified listings for cards with confirmed inventory show a significant markup over the initial launch price.
The current lowest-priced options include:
- At Micro Center, the Gigabyte WINDFORCE SFF OC and MSI SUPRIM LIQUID SOC are listed at $1,979.99, though these are limited to local pickup at selected locations.
- Best Buy offers the PNY RTX 5080 Triple Fan OC for $1,999.99 with an active option for online purchase.
Pricing inconsistencies are also notable within specific product tiers. For instance, Micro Center lists the ASUS ROG Astral OC at $2,079.99, while the ASUS PRIME OC is priced at $2,349.99, despite the PRIME series being positioned below the ROG line.
Supply uncertainty and market shifts
Current retail prices for the RTX 5080 are 98.2% above NVIDIA's MSRP. This trend is accompanied by unusual listings for the RTX 5090, with one model appearing in the NVIDIA Marketplace for $5,599—more than double its original launch price.
The exact cause of these price spikes remains unclear, as it is unknown whether this is driven by chip shortages or other supply chain issues. While board partners have remained silent, NVIDIA has yet to issue a statement regarding the price surge or production volumes. As a result, the RTX 5080 has effectively become the de facto flagship available in the retail market, overshadowing the higher-tier models.
