NVIDIA Adds Windows ARM64 Support to RTX Neural Texture Compression SDK
NVIDIA has expanded support for its RTX Neural Texture Compression (NTC) technology to the Windows on ARM platform. The updated SDK is now compatible with ARM64 processors, laying the groundwork for future games on RTX Spark devices.
According to Compusemble, NVIDIA has released an updated version of its RTX Neural Texture Compression SDK that adds support for the Windows 11 ARM64 architecture. Official build guides now explicitly list RTX Spark as a target platform, confirming that the software stack is being prepared for future NVIDIA-based ARM devices.
How the technology works and what changed
The RTX Neural Texture Compression (NTC) technology uses a small neural network to compress and reconstruct groups of material textures. The SDK allows combining up to 16 channels — albedo, normals, roughness, metalness, and ambient occlusion — into a single set of compressed textures. This reduces memory load and speeds up asset loading.
The new version supports DirectX 12, Vulkan, and CUDA-based compression. Development requires the Windows ARM64 developer preview of CUDA 13.4, Visual Studio 2022 with ARM64 build tools, and an NVIDIA R616-series or newer driver.
Limitations on ARM
Important: DLSS and OptiX are not supported on Windows ARM64 and are automatically disabled. The remaining SDK capabilities work, indicating a phased migration of NVIDIA development tools to the ARM architecture before RTX Spark devices launch.
Availability Status
The SDK is available to developers, but as of August 2026, NVIDIA has not announced any commercial game with NTC support. The technology is currently limited to samples, demonstrations, and integration work within the RTX Kit suite. Widespread adoption is expected after the release of Windows on ARM devices.
