Nine Years of Shadows Released on PS5 and PS4: A Metroidvania with Legendary Music
On October 22, 2026, the action-adventure Metroidvania Nine Years of Shadows was released. Published by COSEN, the game is available in both physical and digital formats for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.
The story follows a brave warrior named Europa as she explores the interior of an ancient mechanical giant known as Talos. Her mission is to uncover the truth behind a curse that has stripped the world of its color and transformed its inhabitants into monsters.
Music is the core element of this title. The soundtrack, led by Miguel Hasson, features contributions from renowned composers Michiru Yamane (Castlevania series) and Norihiko Hibino (Metal Gear Solid series). The tracks were composed using the 432Hz frequency, and the composers themselves appear in-game as NPCs. Music also plays a functional role in gameplay: players can collect hidden notes to use a soothing lullaby to restore health.
The gameplay is a side-scrolling Metroidvania focused on exploration and combat. Players must fight mutated monsters, use light projectiles to destroy "Dark Crystals," and embrace their companion Apino to recharge energy.
