Microsoft Offers Up to $1K Bonus to Switch from MacBook to Surface Laptop Ultra

In a direct move to attract Apple users, Microsoft is offering a significant incentive to switch ecosystems. Potential buyers of the new Surface Laptop Ultra can now receive a trade-in bonus of up to $1,000 if they trade in a MacBook Pro.

It is important to clarify how this promotion works: the $1,000 is not the total trade-in value. Instead, it is an additional bonus applied on top of the device's appraised value. The base value is determined by Microsoft's trade-in tool once the company receives the device and verifies its condition.

To put this into perspective, a high-end Apple MacBook Pro 2025 configuration featuring the M5 Max chip, 128GB of RAM, and a 4TB drive fetched a trade-in value of $2,016. In this scenario, the user would receive the $2,016 plus the additional bonus of up to $1,000. A mid-range M5 Pro model with 24GB of memory and a 1TB drive (in working condition with a charger) was valued at $1,024.

While Microsoft accepts various devices for trade-in—including tablets, phones, and consoles—this specific $1,000 bonus is exclusive to MacBook Pro owners. Other devices will only receive their standard trade-in value without the extra incentive.

The Surface Laptop Ultra is designed to handle heavy AI and gaming workloads, powered by NVIDIA RTX Spark graphics. Retailers like Best Buy are already stocking multiple configurations, including 15-inch 3K touchscreen models with RTX Spark N1X processors (available in 18-core and 20-core variants) and memory options ranging from 24GB to 48GB.
