Marvel’s Wolverine: How Rage Works and Why to Wait for the Release
Fans of Marvel’s Wolverine have received a fresh look at the game from studio Insomniac Games. Developers shared details about the story, combat, and world exploration during a two-hour hands-on session. The game is scheduled to release on September 15 for the PlayStation 5 console.

The story begins with memories of Logan in his feral, memory-wiped state. He returns to Team X, a mutant task force led by Nathaniel Essex, who protects their community. However, tensions are high within the team: Logan has left the group, which displeases Mystique and Sabretooth.

The first mission leads the hero to the secret laboratory of billionaire Bolivar Trask, who conducts illegal experiments on mutants to maintain human superiority. As Logan uncovers Trask’s true intentions, his anger builds into an uncontrollable rage. This emotion becomes a key combat mechanic.

Combat combines melee attacks with the ability to leap onto enemies. Logan doesn’t just attack—he uses momentum to fly across the room and strike. Special techniques are available in combat, which can be upgraded and mapped to controller buttons. For example, Tornado Spin allows cutting through groups of enemies, while Knee Breaker interrupts their attacks.

Rage management is implemented through three Rage Tiers. At Tier 2, combos become more powerful and the ability Last Stand unlocks, allowing health regeneration in critical states. Tier 3 opens access to deadly critical strikes, alters world perception, and enables dangerous moves like snatching katanas from The Hand members.

In the city of Madripoor, players can explore areas like Lowtown and Princess Bar. Here, Logan interacts with new allies, including Jean Grey, and reveals details about his past. Hidden trials called Nightmare Doors transport the player to a nightmare version of the location for timed speed runs.

The game also includes stealth elements: Logan can use enhanced senses to track targets and infiltrate cover. However, Trask’s opponent uses ability inhibitors that force the hero to rely on classic combat moves until they are disabled.

The final boss is a Sentinel prototype built to detect and destroy mutants. The fight requires precision, dodging, and full use of Logan’s skills. After defeating him, players will feel ready for any challenge.
