M80 win Roman Imperium Cup VIII with rematch victory over Luminosity
M80 have claimed their third trophy of 2026 at the Roman Imperium Cup VIII in Portugal. They secured the title with a 2-0 victory over Luminosity in a grand final rematch, after being dropped to the lower bracket earlier the same day.
The road to the trophy required resilience from the North American squad. After being reverse swept by Luminosity in the Upper Bracket Final, M80 had to fight through the Lower Bracket Final against Iberian Soul. A decisive 2-0 sweep on Inferno (13:7) and Cache (13:5) paved their way to the championship match.
In the grand final, M80 managed to turn the tide. On Dust2, the teams were locked in a tight battle until a dominant six-round run on the T-side allowed M80 to close the map 13-10. The second map, Cache, saw Luminosity take a 7-5 lead at the half, but M80 responded aggressively on the CT side. Fritz "slaxz-" Dietrich and Michael "Swisher" Schmid both delivered 11 kills during the comeback to secure the 13-10 victory.
With this win, M80 take home the $6,968 top prize and climb 17 positions in the Valve Regional Standings (VRS). This marks their third LAN trophy of 2026. The team now shifts their focus to Logitech G Play Connect 2026 in Warsaw, scheduled to begin on September 17th.
