Intel may discontinue Arc B580, shifting GPU focus to AI instead
As demand for AI-focused GPUs continues to surge, Intel is reportedly considering whether to pull the plug on its flagship consumer graphics card. New rumors suggest that the Arc B580 may soon disappear from retail shelves, potentially depriving builders and system integrators of one of the few viable options in its current market position.
The claims regarding the demise of the Arc B580 come from X user Haze2K1, a leaker known for sharing accurate information, such as the Arc Pro B65 prior to its official announcement. According to the source, Intel intends to designate the Arc B580 as end-of-life (EoL), shifting its focus toward more profitable professional and workstation graphics cards.
Redirecting Silicon: From Gaming to AI
Discontinuing the Arc B580 would allow Intel to repurpose BMG-G22 GPU dies for the Arc Pro B60. This professional variant mirrors the consumer card's specifications but features double the GDDR6 memory capacity. The price gap is significant: while the Arc Pro B60 launched at $599 (2.4x the price of the B580), its current market value is leaning closer to $1,000.
Intel is not the only manufacturer allegedly pivoting from consumer gaming to the high-demand AI and data center sectors. Similar rumors have circulated regarding Nvidia, suggesting that coveted GB202 dies might be prioritized for the RTX Pro series over the GeForce RTX 5090.
The Fate of Other Models
It remains unclear whether the Arc B570 will face a similar fate. While there isn't a direct 1:1 professional counterpart for the B570, Intel could potentially use a trimmed version of the BMG-G22 silicon to develop Arc Pro B50 cards. If the B580 is indeed discontinued, it is highly probable that the B570 will follow.
Currently, the Arc B580 is still available via Newegg for $329, though only the ASRock Challenger model remains in stock. In the UK, prices have climbed to £499—double its original MSRP—making it difficult to recommend at that price point. While Intel has not officially commented on the status of the Arc B580, the rumor poses a challenge for the market, as its removal would leave many users with limited 8GB alternatives in that specific segment.
