Intel's Beefy 12-Core Xe Desktop iGPU May Slip From Nova Lake To Razor Lake

The intrigue surrounding Intel's future graphics capabilities is growing. According to leaker Jaykihn, a powerful integrated GPU (iGPU) featuring 12 Xe cores, which was previously associated with the Nova Lake architecture, may shift to the Razor Lake family.

Generational Shift and Timing Uncertainty

The discussion centers on a specific class of chips: full-power desktop processors featuring high-end, mobile-class integrated graphics. While AMD has a history of bringing mobile silicon with large iGPUs to desktop sockets, Intel has not traditionally followed this path. However, the reported move from Nova Lake to Razor Lake does not necessarily imply a change in design or architecture. Instead, it suggests that the chip will not be part of the initial Nova Lake launch and may face a delayed release.

It is important to note that Razor Lake is not a simple refresh of Nova Lake. Desktop parts are expected to feature revised P-core and E-core designs, with some tiles potentially manufactured using the TSMC N2X process. Meanwhile, portions of the Razor Lake lineup may still rely on Nova Lake-era technology. Notably, the Razor Lake-AX project—rumored to be a major competitor to AMD's Strix Halo due to its wide memory bus—has also reportedly been pushed back from the Nova Lake roadmap.

Potential for Budget Gaming

Despite the potential delay, interest in these high-performance iGPUs remains high. Current Core Series 3 processors (Panther Lake architecture) already feature 12 Xe3 cores. The upcoming Xe3P revision is expected to offer significant performance improvements over the Arc B390 or Arc G3 Extreme. If this 12-core Xe solution does indeed arrive on desktop platforms, it could provide a viable path for budget-conscious gamers seeking the versatility of a DIY PC without the need for a discrete graphics card.
