Insomniac denies using generative AI in Marvel’s Wolverine
Insomniac Games has denied rumors regarding the use of generative AI in Marvel’s Wolverine. The controversy arose after players shared screenshots of a distorted restroom sign, which many in the community suspected was the result of AI generation.
Community director James Stevenson addressed the speculation on X, clarifying that the visual glitch is actually a "UV map bug" that corrupted the symbol. Stevenson explicitly stated that there are no AI-generated assets within Marvel’s Wolverine and noted that a fix is currently in development.
While some players expressed skepticism regarding the UV mapping explanation, the studio also addressed other reported technical issues. In response to concerns about crashes related to features like "Scent Trailers" and "Audio Sense" indicators, Insomniac explained that these elements are integrated with multiple other systems. The developers emphasized that due to the high player count, they must be deliberate with testing to avoid introducing new bugs while fixing existing ones.
The debate over AI in game development continues to be a sensitive topic for the industry. Recently, the CEO of Level-5 apologized after confirming the use of generative AI in a recent showcase. Meanwhile, major publishers such as Square Enix, EA, and Krafton continue to invest heavily in AI technologies.
