iG Returns to Worlds Top-4 After LPL Derby Victory Over TES
Invictus Gaming (iG) have ended a seven-year wait for a World Championship semi-final by defeating TES in an all-LPL clash. The victory secures their place in the top four of the League of Legends World Championship.
The quarterfinal match, held at the Credit Union of Texas Event Center in Allen, Texas, saw iG assert their dominance. This marks the first time since 2019—when they reached the finals before losing to FPX—that the organization has reached the semi-final stage of the tournament.
iG took control early in Game 1. Following a solo kill by TheShy on 369, the team capitalized on objective fights. Led by Jazy's Kai'Sa, iG secured a massive 10,000 gold lead by the 30-minute mark, effectively shutting down TES's attempts to contest Baron.
After dropping the second game, iG bounced back in Game 3. Wei's Jayce and Jazy's Xayah proved decisive in mid-game skirmishes. By securing crucial kills around the Baron pit, iG dismantled TES's defenses and destroyed the Nexus at the 29-minute mark to take a 2-1 lead.
In the deciding Game 4, iG maintained high pressure. Despite a setback during an early Dragon fight, they secured the Infernal Dragon Soul and dominated mid-lane skirmishes. A decisive victory in the final teamfight sealed their advancement to the semi-finals.
iG now moves on to the semi-finals, where they will face the winner of the matchup involving Gen.G Esports, fighting for a spot in the Grand Finals.
