Ferries and Transparent Water: Details of the ETS 2 Iceland DLC

Reaching Iceland in Euro Truck Simulator 2 will require more than just driving; it will require sailing. SCS Software has shared new details regarding the upcoming Iceland DLC, highlighting new ferry connections and significant water graphical improvements.

Since Iceland is separated from mainland Europe by the North Atlantic, truckers will need to use ferries to reach the island. Developers have implemented several connections from existing European ports, as well as internal routes for island exploration. One key route connects Hirtshals in Denmark to Seyðisfjörður, a picturesque village nestled among fjords. This connection is based on the real-world ferry service operated by Smyril Line.

Another option allows travel from Rotterdam's Europoort in the Netherlands to Þorlákshøfn on Iceland's southwestern coast. While this route is operated by Smyril Line Cargo as a freight service in reality, it has been adapted into a regular ferry connection for players and their trailers. Additionally, a new connection between Ålesund, Norway, and Seyðisfjörður will be introduced. Although this specific route does not exist in real life, it was added to connect new map content and provide more travel options; this addition also opens the previously inaccessible ferry port in Ålesund.

Within Iceland, players can cross the Breiðafjörður bay between Stykkishólmur and Brjánslækur. This crossing serves as a useful alternative to navigating the winding stretches of Route 60 in the northwest. Players should keep in mind that transporting a truck and trailer via ferry comes with a significant cost, so planning finances or using the Quick Travel option to an Icelandic garage is advised.

The DLC also introduces visual upgrades, specifically the debut of transparent water. This feature allows players to see rocks and terrain beneath the surface in shallower areas. Furthermore, water foam effects will be added to certain locations, such as fast-flowing rivers. These improvements will be visible across dozens of locations throughout Iceland, enhancing the environmental detail.
