Going Medieval adds diplomacy and faction interactions
Even after reaching version 1.0 in March, Going Medieval continues to grow thanks to ongoing support from developer Foxy Voxel. The latest update introduces a comprehensive diplomacy system, bringing meaningful interactions with other NPC settlements to the survival sim.
The update introduces 12 NPC factions categorized into six distinct types. Players can establish friendly relations or engage in combat with most of them, though the cannibal faction remains an exception to diplomacy. Through the new system, players can dispatch caravans to neighboring settlements to secure various boons. The outcome of these deals depends on your faction's reputation, the current state of your settlement, and the specific contents of your caravan.
Potential benefits include:
- caravan protection provided by NPC settlements;
- assistance in clearing bandit camps;
- basic resources or rare objects;
- offensive or defensive military support.
These advantages come at a cost. To seal a deal, you might need to deliver livestock, clear bandit camps yourself, fight alongside allies, or lend one of your settlers to the other faction. Note that only one diplomatic deal can be active at a time.
Additionally, non-hostile factions can now send envoys with specific requests. While you cannot choose the nature of the task, you do decide what the faction receives in return. The update also introduces the ability to hire workers for farming and tailoring, as well as mercenaries for military conquests. Other changes include faction-specific resources, regional market shifts, new events, and various quality-of-life improvements.
