GDDR7 roadmap may include 4GB and 6GB chips
Memory vendors are reportedly exploring higher-density GDDR7 packages for future graphics hardware. According to a report from Golden Pig on Weibo, new memory modules with 32Gb (4GB) and 48Gb (6GB) densities could arrive between 2027 and 2028.
Higher-density memory roadmap
These potential capacities would represent a significant increase over the current 16Gb (2GB) and 24Gb (3GB) options. For hardware manufacturers, higher-density single chips would allow for increased VRAM capacities without widening the memory bus or adding more packages to the PCB. This could also enable more efficient single-sided memory layouts in certain designs.
It is important to note that total VRAM capacity remains dependent on the memory controller width, available channels, and overall manufacturing costs. High-density DRAM typically carries a price premium, and manufacturers have not yet confirmed any specific roadmap details, including operating speeds, process nodes, or expected pricing.
