FSR 4.1.1b unofficially runs on Radeon RX 6000 via DLL swap
Owners of AMD Radeon RX 6000 series graphics cards can now unofficially utilize the latest FSR 4.1.1b upscaler on their RDNA 2 hardware, but it requires a manual workaround rather than an official driver update.
The breakthrough comes from the community project OptiScaler, which has released a modified version of the amd_fidelityfx_upscaler_dx12.dll file. Unlike previous methods that required OptiScaler to run as a separate background process, this new build allows the INT8 variant of FSR 4.1.1b to execute directly on older Radeon GPUs by bypassing specific hardware checks.
To implement this, users must manually replace the existing DLL file located in the game's Win64 subdirectory with the modified version from OptiScaler. It is crucial to back up or rename the original file before making any changes, as game updates can overwrite the modification or cause incompatibility issues. While early comparisons suggest reduced flickering and ghosting compared to FSR 4.0.2c, performance gains at 1440p in "Balanced" mode are estimated at only 2-3%.
However, this solution carries significant risks for multiplayer titles. Manipulated or unsigned libraries can be detected by anti-cheat systems and may result in account bans. Therefore, this method is strictly recommended for single-player games and should be used entirely at the user's own risk. While the community fix proves that RDNA 2 architecture can handle parts of the newer upscaler, it does not guarantee that AMD will officially support or sign these files in the future.
For now, this unofficial patch extends the practical utility of RX 6000 cards and allows enthusiasts to test improvements from the current FSR version. For a truly safe and recommended solution, users should wait for official signed files, driver integration, and explicit approval from AMD.
