First major expansion for Forza Horizon 6 arriving in January
Playground Games has officially confirmed that the first major expansion for Forza Horizon 6 is set to arrive early next year. Titled the "first Premium Expansion," this release aims to provide a significant content boost to the racing series following its launch in May.
The expansion is scheduled for release on January 21, 2027. Players who purchased the Premium Edition, Premium Upgrade, or expansion bundles will receive the content automatically. All other players will need to purchase the DLC separately. While specific details regarding the theme or new mechanics remain under wraps, the studio has promised more information closer to the launch date and confirmed that a second expansion is also in the works.
For the Forza Horizon franchise, these expansions are crucial for maintaining long-term engagement. While previous DLCs for the fifth installment, such as Hot Wheels and Rally Adventure, received mixed critical reception, fans are looking for a more seamless integration of new environments. There is high expectation for a release that expands the map in a way that feels natural to the game's established atmosphere, similar to the Fortune Island expansion in the fourth entry.
As with many studios under the Microsoft umbrella, the announcement comes amidst ongoing discussions regarding the parent company's large-scale layoffs and corporate restructuring efforts throughout the year.
