Fanatec Project Obsidian Prototype: Wheel with SimHub Support
Fanatec has revealed a prototype for a new steering wheel called Project Obsidian. The most striking feature is a five-inch rectangular display in the center, which is expected to support SimHub for displaying telemetry from racing simulators.
This prototype marks a departure from Fanatec's traditional philosophy of maintaining a closed ecosystem. Unlike previous models, the Project Obsidian is designed to receive data via USB or Wi-Fi, including UDP telemetry from consoles, while drawing power directly from the Wheel Base.
The wheel features a classic, non-round design common in modern racing series. The control layout includes:

- Three backlit buttons and one grey button for each thumb;
- Two rotary wheels and two rotary encoders;
- Four backlit switches located below the display;
- A set of nine Rev-Lights for engine RPM, along with six additional LEDs on the sides.
On the rear, the wheel is equipped with two shoulder buttons, four paddle shifters, and two clutch paddles.

A retail version is expected to arrive in 2027. Currently, compatibility is confirmed for PC and PlayStation 5, while Xbox support has not yet been announced. Fanatec intends to position the device within its mid-range ClubSport series, suggesting a more moderate price point compared to the flagship Podium line (which ranges from 650 to 1,500 EUR, whereas ClubSport products typically cost between 350 and 600 EUR).
