Fake RTX 4090 boards found on Chinese marketplace for just $52
Counterfeit boards imitating NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 graphics cards have been spotted on the Chinese second-hand marketplace Goofish. The product, advertised as an “NVIDIA GTX4090-24G” motherboard with a replica 24GB GPU package, is being offered for approximately $52 (350 RMB) per unit.
According to GPU repair specialist VIK-on, these boards are highly convincing replicas that can be difficult to distinguish from genuine hardware without direct comparison. The Shenzhen-based seller explicitly states that the boards are non-functional and intended for use as spare parts, display models, or inventory fillers. While the boards include DisplayPort and HDMI connectors, they are sold without any cooling system.
The counterfeit GPU packages exhibit specific visual differences from authentic NVIDIA silicon:
- The compound surrounding the die has a bluish tint, whereas genuine RTX 4090 processors use a gray compound.
- The substrate appears lighter, showing an almost yellowish hue.
- The GPU markings and memory packages (which mimic Micron components) are reproduced to closely resemble the original hardware.
This discovery follows previous reports of buyers being misled by similar hardware. In one instance, a customer in Russia paid roughly $350 for a card that turned out to be a non-functional replica. The current listing on Goofish has already garnered over 180 favorites, signaling interest from collectors or repair technicians looking for display pieces or parts for board swaps.
The listing has already attracted at least 27 comments from potential buyers and 187 favorites. The seller describes the boards as brand new but explicitly states that no returns or exchanges are accepted.
