FACEIT to let players vote on the future of knife rounds
FACEIT is putting the future of the knife round in the hands of its community. The matchmaking service is launching a vote to determine whether the traditional knife round should remain or be replaced by a randomized side selection at the start of matches.
Currently, the standard procedure in FACEIT matchmaking involves a knife round where the winning team earns the right to choose whether they start on the Terrorist or Counter-Terrorist side. The proposed change would eliminate this ritual, instead using a randomized system to assign sides to both teams at the beginning of the match.
According to an announcement on X, the outcome of this community vote will be implemented as a test starting with the kickoff of Season 10 on December 9th. This move follows a pattern of community-driven updates, as players previously voted on the inclusion of maps like Cache and Vertigo into the pool, as well as the implementation of halftime all-chat during Season 9.
Scope of the changes
It is important to note that this decision will only impact the matchmaking service. ESEA League matches will remain unaffected by the vote, continuing to use the standard knife round format for all competitive league play.
