Evil Geniuses to shut down after 25 years
Evil Geniuses is officially shutting down. The organization will cease all competitive and day-to-day operations on November 2, 2026, ending a run of over 25 years. This move also removes the Champions 2023 winner from the VCT Americas circuit.
CEO Chris DeAppolonio cited limited sponsorship opportunities and the rising costs of competing at the highest level as the primary reasons for the closure, stating the business can no longer be operated responsibly. While EG has spent recent years attempting to stabilize operations and expand into new titles, sustained investment proved insufficient. The organization has committed to an orderly wind-down and promised to support all affected players, coaches, and staff members.
Effective immediately, all players across all rosters are permitted to negotiate with other organizations. VALORANT players and coaches will officially become free agents once the 2026 season concludes on November 2. The team's final appearance in Americas Stage 2 was a 1-2 Lower Bracket Round 1 loss against MIBR.
