Evi Retires from Professional League of Legends
Shunsuke "Evi" Murase has announced his retirement from professional League of Legends after 11 years of competing at the highest level. The Japanese top laner confirmed the decision on social media, stating that he will step away from professional play later this year.
Evi reflected on several defining moments of his career, including his international appearances with DetonatioN FocusMe and his battles against major-region teams. He highlighted his breakthrough at the World Championship qualifiers, where he defeated a Brazilian representative to reach the international stage, and remembered pushing DAMWON Gaming to the limit at MSI before suffering a comeback.
After returning to Japan, Evi won the LJL and once again represented the region at Worlds. One of his final international milestones came this year, when he finally defeated GAM Esports after facing the Vietnamese team numerous times without previously securing a victory.
During his career, Evi became one of the most recognizable players in Japanese League of Legends. He represented DetonatioN FocusMe at multiple international tournaments and also spent time in the LEC with Team Heretics. His career achievements include 12 LJL titles, six Worlds appearances, four MSI appearances, and becoming the first Japanese player to compete in a major region.
Looking ahead, Evi said he intends to remain involved in Japan's League of Legends scene from a different position. He hopes to pass his experience and knowledge on to younger players and contribute to the development of Japanese LoL. He also thanked the Japanese League of Legends community and everyone who supported him throughout his 11-year professional career.
