Dune: Awakening Arrives on XBOX With New Ways to Play
Dune: Awakening has officially arrived on XBOX Series X|S and PC. Available also via Xbox Game Pass, the launch marks a significant evolution for the open-world survival game, moving beyond its original multiplayer focus to offer a much more customizable and accessible experience.
The most significant addition is the introduction of a full single-player mode. Players can now explore Arrakis solo, choosing from three difficulty presets or fine-tuning every aspect of the gameplay—from sandstorm intensity and XP multipliers to item durability. Crucially, the game now allows for a completely PvE experience, ensuring players can enjoy all mechanics and rewards without the necessity of PvP.
The narrative experience has also been expanded. With the conclusion of «Book One» and the start of «The Great Convention Part III», players can now experience the entire story in a single run. Existing story missions have been updated to include new rewards, such as unique weapon variants and placeable decorations like the Maw of the Worm Wall Relief.
Key gameplay improvements include:
- Combat Overhaul: Developers have increased the parry window, improved NPC animations and AI, and introduced a dash mechanic that allows players to pass through enemies.
- Progression Systems: A new Specializations system allows players to invest in crafting, gathering, or combat, while Augmentations provide powerful modifiers for Tier 6 gear.
- Endgame & World: The Landsraad faction system has been rebuilt into a mission-driven framework suitable for both solo and multiplayer play. Additionally, Arrakis has expanded with seven new mission locations and six Imperial Testing Stations.
To celebrate the launch, a «Filmic Archive» DLC is available today, featuring cosmetics inspired by Dune: Part One and Dune: Part Two, including Sardaukar armor sets and Caladan-style gear.
Looking ahead, Funcom plans to release the Polar Cap update later this year. This free content will introduce an icy biome with new survival mechanics and a standalone storyline. Full cross-play is also confirmed to be in development following the console rollout.
