Dell's Panther Lake laptop can survive a 3-foot drop
Dell has updated its Pro Rugged 14 semi-rugged laptop lineup, bringing it into the "Intel" Panther Lake era (Core Ultra Series 3). Designed for harsh environments, the device is rated to survive drops from 3 feet (90cm) and can operate in temperatures ranging from -29°C to 63°C.
Hardware and Memory Flexibility
A significant shift in this generation is the move to replaceable LPCAMM2 memory modules. Moving away from the soldered LPDDR common in recent mobile platforms, Dell offers 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB configurations running at speeds up to 8533 MT/s. Notably, the 64GB upgrade is listed at an additional $2,000 on the company's US website.

The processor lineup includes the Intel Core Ultra 5 335, 336H, and the high-end Core Ultra 7 366H. For users requiring dedicated graphics, Dell offers an optional NVIDIA RTX PRO 500 based on the Blackwell architecture, featuring 6GB of "GDDR7" VRAM. Other models rely on integrated graphics.
Display and Power Options
The 14-inch display features a 1920×1200 resolution with a 16:10 aspect ratio. Users can choose between a standard 400-nit panel or a high-brightness 1100-nit version designed for outdoor visibility. Touchscreen configurations are also available.

To ensure longevity in the field, the system utilizes a 53.5Wh battery, with support for a second 53.5Wh pack. Connectivity is extensive, including two Thunderbolt 4 ports, two USB-A ports, HDMI 2.1, Ethernet, and a legacy RS232 serial port. A configurable rear I/O bay allows for adding 2.5GbE, USB-A, or Fischer USB interfaces.
The Dell Pro Rugged 14 (model PR514260) starts at $3,945, with the final price varying based on the selected CPU, memory, and display specifications.
