Dead or Alive 6 Last Round adds new character Minato today
Koei Tecmo Games has officially launched a major new content update for DEAD OR ALIVE 6 Last Round, introducing the first post-launch character since the game's release on June 25, 2026. The new fighter, Minato, debuts today (September 10, 2026) as a modern Japanese female university student who utilizes a unique contact lens device to master fighting techniques and blend them with her own dance skills.
The update marks a significant step in the revival of the DEAD OR ALIVE franchise on current-generation hardware. According to an interview with series IP Producer Yoji Hayashi and Main Planner Takashi Ichinai, the decision to add Minato was driven by the continued growth of the player base on digital storefronts despite the conclusion of major updates for the original DEAD OR ALIVE 6. The team aimed to re-energize the series with a character that feels accessible and relatable to new players.
The Concept: A Relatable Modern Student
Minato is designed to be an entry point for newcomers. Unlike characters defined by destiny or heavy backstories, Minato represents "ordinary" modern life while retaining a mysterious edge. Her name, meaning "port," reflects her open-minded nature. Visually, she features long hair and a skirt with loose socks, elements chosen specifically to make her movements dynamic and visually engaging during combat.

Unique Mechanics: The R-MN-T Device
Minato's fighting style revolves around the R-MN-T device, a fictional contact lens technology developed by NiCO that allows her to learn and replicate other fighters' moves. She specializes in flashy, dance-inspired techniques and connects them with her own choreography. Her core mechanic is the Minato Shuffle, a stance that allows players to switch between offense and defense instantly. If an attack is blocked, she can pivot to a defensive hold; if it hits, she continues the combo. This flexibility makes her suitable for both beginners and veterans looking to master complex matchups.

Costumes and Availability
The character comes with three distinct outfits included in the game: a standard school uniform, a stage costume incorporating dance elements, and a casual after-school look. These are unlocked by collecting blueprints within the game rather than being available immediately upon release.

Future Plans for the Franchise
This update is the first major content drop since DEAD OR ALIVE 6 Last Round launched, signaling a renewed commitment to competitive play. Koei Tecmo has confirmed plans for global tournaments, starting with the EVO USA DEAD OR ALIVE 6 Last Round Championship. The developers emphasized that they are listening to community feedback and intend to continue supporting the game through future updates, celebrating the series' upcoming 30th anniversary.
