Crimson Moon: Building the Ultimate Nephilim

ProbablyMonsters has shared a detailed look at the build system in Crimson Moon, highlighting how players can forge their Nephilim through persistent gear purification, randomized loot, and deep co-op synergy ahead of the game's September 1 launch on Xbox Series X|S.

Mark Yeend, Executive Director of Marketing at ProbablyMonsters, explains that the combat in Crimson Moon is designed to feel extraordinary, with every strike and dodge serving as a deliberate expression of the warrior you create. This vision drives the game's build system, which allows players to hunt through the fallen city of Gildenarch, collect powerful items, and permanently upgrade their arsenal.

The city of Gildenarch is filled with hellspawn in its corrupted streets, graveyards, and catacombs. Weapons and armor drop throughout every hunt, with rarer and more powerful items appearing in the deeper, more dangerous Wards. The randomization is intentional, ensuring that no two runs yield exactly the same rewards and keeping every hunt unpredictable.

Items found in the field are temporary until players return to Sanctus Clypeus, their home base between hunts. There, they can purify collected gear, making it a permanent part of their arsenal regardless of what happens on the next run. Crimson Moon does not lock players into preset armor sets; instead, every piece of equipment carries its own statistics affecting damage resistance, ability strength, stamina recovery, and Weapon Art potency. Players are encouraged to mix and match pieces from different sets to build the exact combination they want, while also customizing the appearance of their Nephilim to reflect their playstyle.

Weapons in the game feature Weapon Arts, special abilities that fundamentally change how players engage with enemies. Learning which Weapon Arts suit their instincts and which armor statistics amplify them most effectively provides depth for experienced players. Additionally, Angel Mode, activated by channeling divine Nephilim power, transforms how players move and strike, with the armor they have built determining how effectively they can leverage that transformation.

Two-player co-op adds a new dimension to build theory, as players can design two Nephilim who make each other stronger. A build focused on aggressive Weapon Arts pairs well with a partner running higher endurance and revival support, while an armor combination that amplifies Angel Mode damage works differently alongside a co-op partner built for crowd control. The best co-op pairs are those who figure out how their builds create something neither could achieve alone.

As a thank you to the Xbox community, every player who purchases the Standard or Deluxe Edition of Crimson Moon will receive the exclusive Hex-Knight armor set at launch. The game is out now on Xbox Series X|S for $19.99. The Deluxe Edition is available for $29.99 and includes the Ceremonial Armor Set, the Axe of the Gods, and access to the upcoming Post-Launch Content Expansion. Players who start with the Standard Edition can upgrade to the Deluxe Edition at any time for $10.
