Bungie to un-vault Destiny 2 campaigns and raids
The leadership at Bungie has announced a significant shift in their development strategy. The studio plans to release several older Destiny 2 campaigns and raids from the vault, aiming to rebuild the franchise's future and regain player trust.
In a recent official statement, studio head Poria Torkan and head of product Josh Deane admitted that the company lost focus in recent years. They acknowledged that Bungie lost community trust, lost talented colleagues, and failed to prioritize their players. This admission comes after a difficult period for the studio, including layoffs of at least 290 employees earlier this year.
Despite these setbacks, the studio emphasized that Destiny remains foundational to their future. Over the coming months, players will regain access to previously vaulted locations and story content. However, the studio noted that this content will require technical adjustments—including updates to lighting and combat encounters—to ensure it meets the current gameplay and stability standards of Destiny 2.
The studio also addressed the performance of their extraction shooter, Marathon. Leadership admitted the game has not reached the player numbers they had hoped for and acknowledged the need for the title to evolve beyond its current genre constraints. To broaden its appeal, Bungie plans to introduce a permanent PvE mode and a social space this December, targeting players outside the core competitive skirmish loop.
