The recent incident where the frontman of Breaking Benjamin used a mid-gig speech to promote his Fallout 4 mod and address community drama was not a planned stunt. According to Benjamin Burnley, the impromptu talk was an attempt to fill dead air caused by a broken snare drum.
In an interview with Nexus Mods, Burnley, who develops mods under the name Killemloud, explained that the drummer's snare drum head broke during the show. While technicians worked on the repair, the singer decided to talk to the crowd to avoid awkward silence. This led to a discussion about his mod, which had faced significant negativity upon its initial release.
"My experience as a mod user is that the first version is very rarely representative of the final version. Mod Authors improve their mods as they go based on user feedback," Burnley stated. He clarified that while bullying is a serious issue, he approached the topic with humor to kill time during the technical delay, rather than intending to hold up the concert for a rant.
The motivation behind his True First Person mod stems from his passion for VR gaming. Burnley expressed his love for playing Skyrim and Fallout 4 in virtual reality, noting that mods are essential for enhancing the VR experience. Since setting up a full VR rig is difficult while touring on a bus, he created the mod to bring a sense of first-person immersion to the standard flat version of the game.
Notably, the mod is tagged as "AI-assisted" on Nexus Mods. This label indicates that the creator utilized AI tools for tasks such as texture upscaling or audio cleaning, a common practice for modern modding workflows.
