Blizzard hints at console ports for World of Warcraft: Forever
Blizzard Entertainment appears to be taking the idea of a World of Warcraft console port more seriously than ever. Following the reported success of the World of Warcraft: Forever beta—which was allegedly the largest in the series' history—the developer is looking toward broader accessibility.
World of Warcraft: Forever serves as a third version of the iconic MMO, sitting alongside the existing Classic and Retail versions. A major addition to this iteration is controller support, marking the first time the franchise has embraced gamepads. In a conversation with GamesRadar, Vice President and Executive Producer Holly Longdale hinted that the game's current PC exclusivity might be temporary.
Longdale stated that the ultimate goal is to let players 'play it wherever you want and, at some point, on whatever you want.' She explained that ensuring gamepads work seamlessly in Forever was the essential first step in this journey. This flexibility is already being utilized by players on handheld devices like the ROG Ally X, moving the experience beyond the traditional desktop setup.
While no specific console release has been announced, Longdale noted the increasing ubiquity of gaming platforms. The discussion touched upon the Xbox Project Helix, a rumored PC-console hybrid. For now, the focus remains on the upcoming full launch of World of Warcraft: Forever, which is scheduled for November 4.
