Baldur's Gate 3 Act Two Expansion mod enters beta
Modder SquallyDaBeanz has released the beta version of Act Two Expansion, an ambitious custom campaign mod for Baldur's Gate 3. Developed over nearly two years, the mod introduces a brand-new region called The Chionthar Wilds, designed to be explored between the game's second and third acts.
The new region is intended to be similar in scope to the Wilderness area from Act One. It features various quests, dungeons, and combat encounters tailored for mid-to-high-level parties, specifically between levels eight and ten. Narratively, players must find a way to cross the "Chionthar" River before heading to the epic battle against the Absolute's army in Rivington.
As the project is currently in beta, SquallyDaBeanz advises players to save frequently due to potential game-breaking bugs. The developer noted that while the mod is playable from start to finish, the experience can be uneven. A known issue involves a potential softlock that prevents progression to Act 3 if there are unfinished camp events, such as Oathbreaker, before the finale. The mod includes an in-game warning regarding this.
Additionally, new NPCs currently feature subtitled dialogue only, as the developer has no immediate plans for voice acting. The mod is also noted to be less reactive than the base game, meaning it may not reward unorthodox paths or branching choices as extensively. However, the mod is compatible with multiplayer, provided all players have the same files installed.
For the 1.0 release, the developer aims to improve writing, dialogue, character backgrounds, and boss mechanics. Players can choose between the Main Download for a full new playthrough or the Quickstart version to warp directly to the new region.
