ASUS Launches ROG Swift OLED PG27UCWM and PG32UCWM with Tandem-RGB Panels
ASUS has introduced two new gaming monitors based on Tandem-RGB-OLED technology. They support native 4K/240Hz and a switch to Full HD/480Hz for competitive gaming.
ASUS has unveiled the ROG Swift OLED PG27UCWM and PG32UCWM, two gaming monitors built on Tandem-RGB-OLED technology. Unlike standard WOLED panels, these screens lack white subpixels, a design choice aimed at improving text clarity and reducing color fringing on thin lines.
Key Changes: Tandem-RGB and 4K/240Hz + FHD/480Hz Modes
Both models feature a native resolution of 3840 × 2160 (4K) at 240 Hz. However, via a Dual-Mode switch, the resolution can be dropped to Full HD (1920 × 1080), boosting the refresh rate to 480 Hz. This is critical for competitive titles where minimal latency matters more than maximum detail.
Tandem-RGB Structure: Unlike standard WOLED panels, these screens do not use white subpixels. Pixels consist only of red, green, and blue elements. ASUS claims this eliminates color fringing (halos) around text and thin lines, a common issue with competitor OLEDs. The manufacturer also promises up to 27% more color volume at high brightness levels.
Brightness and HDR: The peak brightness is rated at 1000 nits. It is important to note that this value is achieved only on small screen areas (e.g., explosions), not across the entire white screen. For comparison, standard LCD monitors often have uniform brightness of 500–600 nits.
Interfaces: Both monitors feature a DisplayPort 2.1a port with UHBR20 support (80 Gbps). This allows transmitting 4K@240Hz signals without data compression, requiring a compatible graphics card. There are also two HDMI 2.1 ports and USB-C with up to 90W charging.
Panel Protection: OLED Care Pro and Neo-Proximity
To extend panel lifespan, ASUS has integrated OLED Care Pro. A built-in motion sensor (Neo-Proximity) automatically activates a black screen or static image if no movement is detected in front of the monitor for a set time (1–15 minutes). This helps prevent burn-in from static UI elements.
Voice control is available via ASUS Display Control CLI. Users can issue commands like "Switch to esports mode," and the agent will execute necessary settings locally on the PC.
Price and Availability
The PG27UCWM (26.5 inches) has a recommended price of €1,249.90. The larger PG32UCWM (31.5 inches) costs €1,359.90. The price difference is only €110 for an additional 5 inches of screen.
Both models support Dolby Vision and carry the VESA DisplayHDR 400 True Black certification. ASUS also uses Gallium Nitride Field-Effect Transistors (GaNFET) in the power supply, which should reduce chassis heat and stress on organic layers.
Independent tests have not yet confirmed the claimed brightness improvements or the absence of color fringing. The final verdict on image quality and real-world performance will depend on laboratory measurements.
