ASUS launches ROG Thor 1600W Titanium III EVO power supply with GPU-First voltage detection
ASUS has officially launched the ROG Thor 1600W Titanium III EVO, a high-capacity power supply unit designed for next-generation desktop PCs. Priced at over 140,000 yen (approx. $950 USD), this unit targets enthusiasts and creators building systems with extreme power demands.
The ROG Thor 1600W Titanium III EVO carries the prestigious 80 PLUS Titanium certification, indicating industry-leading efficiency levels that typically exceed 94% under load. At its core lies the adoption of GaN (Gallium Nitride) MOSFETs. Unlike traditional silicon-based components, these transistors offer significantly lower internal resistance and faster switching speeds. ASUS claims this technology improves overall power conversion efficiency by up to 30% compared to conventional MOSFET designs, resulting in less wasted heat and energy.
Advanced Voltage Management for GPUs
The unit fully supports the latest ATX 3.1 and PCIe 5.1 standards. It comes standard with four "12V-2x6" PCIe connectors, eliminating the need for daisy-chaining or adapter cables that can introduce voltage drops. A standout feature is the inclusion of two proprietary ROG Equalizer cables. One of these cables integrates a patented Intelligent Voltage Stabilizer (IVS). When connected to the GPU, this feature enables a "GPU-First" voltage detection mode.

This shift is critical for high-end graphics cards that draw massive power from the 12V rail. By prioritizing voltage stability for the GPU over the CPU during peak loads—such as in gaming or overclocking scenarios—the IVS can improve voltage stability by up to 45%. Users who prefer traditional CPU-priority voltage detection can simply unplug the IVS cable to toggle between modes, offering flexibility without firmware updates.
Monitoring and Cooling
For transparency, the unit features a magnetic OLED display that shows real-time power consumption. The display is flexible in placement; it can be mounted on the side or front of the case using an included Type-C extender cable, allowing users to monitor their system from a distance without cluttering the PSU shroud.

Thermally, the unit utilizes a full aluminum chassis and a custom ROG heatsink to manage heat effectively. It is cooled by a fan equipped with dual ball bearings, which are generally rated for longer lifespans than standard sleeve-bearing fans. The physical dimensions are 190 x 150 x 86mm, fitting most mid-to-full tower cases.
ASUS backs this power supply with a substantial 10-year warranty, reflecting confidence in its long-term durability and component quality. While the price point places it firmly in the enthusiast tier, the combination of GaN technology, advanced voltage stabilization, and robust build quality makes it a compelling option for users pushing hardware to its absolute limits.
