ASRock Unveils New OLED Monitors and Liquid Coolers

ASRock held a gaming monitor experience event in Akihaba, revealing a significant expansion of its display lineup. The company showcased several upcoming OLED gaming monitors scheduled for release on October 30, as well as unreleased high-end liquid CPU coolers from the Taichi series.

QD-OLED vs. WOLED: Choosing the Right Tech

A major highlight of the event was a technical breakdown of OLED technologies. ASRock representative Yuji Haraguchi explained that the company sources panels from both Samsung and LG, catering to different user environments.

The QD-OLED panels from Samsung offer vibrant color reproduction through quantum dot technology, making them ideal for immersive gaming in controlled lighting. On the other hand, LG's WOLED technology provides higher peak brightness (up to 1,500 cd/m² compared to 1,300 cd/m² for QD-OLED) and better performance in bright rooms, as the white sub-pixel helps prevent black levels from appearing grey under ambient light.

The ASRock Monitor Lineup

The event detailed three primary monitor models arriving in late October:

  • Taichi TCO27USA: A 27-inch 4K monitor with a 240Hz refresh rate. It features FreeSync Premium Pro and DisplayHDR True Black 400 certification. Expected price is approximately ¥169,800.
  • Taichi TCO27QXA: A 27-inch WQHD monitor boasting an ultra-high 500Hz refresh rate. It supports DisplayHDR True Black 500. The estimated price is ¥147,800.
  • Phantom Gaming PGO27QSA: A more budget-friendly 240Hz WQHD option. It utilizes DisplayPort 1.4 and FreeSync Premium, with a lower peak brightness of 400 cd/m². It will be available in black (approx. ¥69,800) and white (approx. ¥72,800).

Additionally, a dual-mode model, the TCO27QXB (supporting 540Hz at 2K or 720Hz at HD), is planned for the Japanese market.

Next-Gen Liquid Cooling

Beyond displays, ASRock showcased unreleased high-end liquid CPU coolers. The Taichi AQUA 360 LCD and Taichi 360 Holo will feature the high-efficiency Emma V3 pump system from Asetek. The Taichi AQUA 360 LCD comes with a 38mm thick radiator, while the Taichi 360 Holo utilizes a 40mm thick radiator, targeting enthusiasts seeking premium thermal performance and the signature Taichi aesthetic.
