Apple Preparing AirPods with Cameras for Visual Intelligence: Video from macOS 26.7 RC
Apple is preparing to launch a new version of AirPods featuring built-in cameras. These devices will not capture traditional photos or videos; instead, they are designed to power the Visual Intelligence feature. A short video surfaced in macOS 26.7 Release Candidate (RC), confirming the product is nearing release.
What Do the Cameras Do?
A video from X user @aaronp613 shows a person holding a book while wearing the new AirPods. The voice assistant says: «With Visual Intelligence, your world becomes savable. See something you like? Just ask me to save it for later.»
The Visual Intelligence feature is already available on iPhone and allows users to learn about objects in their real-world environment or on-screen: transcribing text, translating it, identifying plants and animals, searching for items visually, and asking questions about surroundings. On the AirPods, cameras will act as the 'eyes' for this system.
When Is the Release?
According to sources, the new AirPods with cameras are expected to be unveiled in September 2026 — likely at an event on September 8 or 9 alongside the iPhone 18 Pro (Max) and a foldable 'iPhone Ultra'.
Important Limitation for Europe
Due to regulatory restrictions, Apple does not currently plan to launch Siri AI in the EU. Since the AirPods cameras will function as an interface for this version of AI, Visual Intelligence may be unavailable or significantly limited in Europe. Official confirmation from the company is still pending.
