Apex Legends Character Tier List: Season 29

Welcome to the Apex Legends character tier list guide for Season 29. This material is accurate as of August 19, 2026. Our goal is to help you choose an optimal hero for ranked matches and beginners without promising guaranteed victory, but providing proven tools.

In Apex Legends, a character's effectiveness depends on team synergy and the ability to use abilities correctly. We have divided heroes into categories: S-Tier (maximum efficiency), A-Tier (very strong alternatives), B-Tier (work in specific compositions) and C/D-Tier (require experience or specific situations). It is important to remember that even lower-tier heroes can be effective if you know their strengths.

Best Apex Legends Characters: S-Tier

Heroes at this level dominate the current meta thanks to versatility and powerful abilities. They fit almost any team composition.

  • Axle: A new skirmisher built around speed and fast repositioning. Her Nitro Gates ability allows launching into high-speed slides, making rotations and sudden pushes easier. The Drift passive improves slide control, while Kickstart sends out an enemy-seeking drone to pressure targets before your squad commits.
  • Lifeline: One of the best support legends. Her D.O.C Heal Drone heals nearby teammates, and her ultimate D.O.C Halo adds a bullet-blocking shield that speeds up healing inside it, making her much stronger in clutch resets.
  • Conduit: Supports her squad with Radiant Transfer, granting temporary shields in clutch moments.
  • Alter: A highly mobile skirmisher. Her Void Passage ability enables fast escapes or aggressive pushes, and her ultimate, Void Nexus, offers quick team redeployment for map control.
  • Horizon: Has excellent mobility and area control. The Gravity Lift ability allows shifting between altitudes rapidly, while Black Hole holds enemies within a small area.
  • Bangalore: A simple yet powerful assault legend. Her Smoke Launcher provides excellent cover for repositioning or respawning teammates, and her ultimate Rolling Thunder can disperse enemy clumps well.

Strong Alternatives: A-Tier

These characters are very strong and can fill the gap if your squad lacks S-tier picks.

  • Valkyrie: A recon legend with high mobility. Her Skyward Dive redeployes the squad for rapid rotations, while Missile Swarm disrupts enemies.
  • Pathfinder: A mobile skirmisher. His Grappling Hook allows quick escapes or surprise attacks, while his Zipline Gun offers instant team repositioning.
  • Ash: A lethal skirmisher. Her Arc Snare slows and traps enemies, and her ultimate Phase Breach allows instant engagement or flanking.
  • Sparrow: Thrives on vertical mobility. His double jump and Tracker Dart let him control high ground and reveal enemies.
  • Ballistic: An aggressive assault legend. His Whistler ability disrupts enemies by overheating their guns, while his ultimate Tempest boosts firepower for clutch team fights.
  • Bloodhound: A great recon pick. His Eye of the Allfather reveals the positions of enemies.

Average Tier: B-Tier

These heroes can be effective in specific scenarios but require cleaner positioning and better timing.

  • Newcastle: His passive lets him revive while dragging allies to safety, protected by a shield that ignores slows. His ultimate Castle Wall can block nearly any push.
  • Wraith: A well-rounded skirmisher with skills for quick repositioning and assistance to teammates.
  • Octane: High-speed skirmisher focused on mobility. His Stim ability boosts movement speed at the cost of health, while his Launch Pad provides quick repositioning for the whole squad.
  • Revenant: An aggressive skirmisher. Shadow Pounce lets him leap into fights or escape after a risky push. Assassin's Instinct highlights low-health enemies nearby.
  • Vantage: A recon sniper specializing in long-range combat. Her Spotter's Lens marks enemies for the team, and her ultimate applies bonus damage.
  • Catalyst: A controller with unique abilities to influence the battlefield.

Weaker Picks: C-Tier and D-Tier

These characters are less dominant in the meta but can be effective in experienced hands or specific situations.

  • C-Tier: Fuse (area control), Mad Maggie (aggressive pushes), Loba (loot access), Gibraltar (defensive dome, but slow), Wattson (grenade shutdown and shield regen), Crypto (drone recon), Caustic (area denial).
  • D-Tier: Rampart (defense, weak in mobile fights), Mirage (decoys, unstable effect), Seer (recon, small area ultimate).

Recommendations for New Players

If you are just starting to play Apex Legends, we recommend choosing heroes from the S-Tier or A-Tier lists that are easy to master:

  • Bloodhound: Ideal for learning scanners.
  • Lifeline: Teaches the role of support and healing.
  • Gibraltar: Teaches team utility and defense.
  • Loba: Teaches the value of loot access.
  • Bangalore: Teaches basics of offensive gameplay.
