AMD to Significantly Boost Chip Deliveries by 2027

AMD is gearing up for a major production scale-up. During a recent visit to Taiwan, CEO Lisa Su announced that the company aims to significantly increase its chip delivery volumes by 2027. To meet the anticipated demand, AMD is actively seeking to secure additional manufacturing and memory capacities from its key partners across the supply chain.

Long-term Strategic Planning

As reported by Reuters, AMD has shifted toward a planning horizon of three to five years. This move reflects the increasing complexity of modern semiconductor manufacturing, where securing advanced wafers is only one part of the equation. Modern AI accelerators require massive amounts of advanced packaging capacity and specialized memory to function effectively.

During her trip, Lisa Su focused on several critical partners:

  • TSMC, to secure advanced wafer capacity for both CPUs and GPUs;
  • Samsung and SK hynix, to ensure a steady supply of high-bandwidth memory (HBM) essential for AI workloads;
  • Foxconn, to support system manufacturing and integration.

This holistic approach suggests that AMD is treating its supply chain as a single, interconnected system. A shortage in any single component, such as HBM stacks, could render even a surplus of GPU dies useless, making the coordination with memory manufacturers just as vital as the partnership with logic foundries.

Market Impact and Product Outlook

While AMD has confirmed the need for increased capacity, specific production volumes, financial commitments, or a breakdown by product family have not been disclosed. It remains unclear how much of this capacity will be dedicated to the enterprise AI sector versus consumer markets. While the primary driver is expected to be the push to compete with NVIDIA in the AI accelerator market, Lisa Su explicitly mentioned both CPUs and GPUs in her discussions.

For consumers, it is important to note that a surge in production for high-margin data center products does not automatically translate to increased availability of Radeon graphics cards or Ryzen processors in retail. The allocation of these resources depends on the evolving product mix and market demand. However, the aggressive 2027 roadmap indicates that AMD is positioning itself to capitalize on the sustained growth of AI infrastructure.
