All main NVIDIA DLSS technologies ported to AMD Radeon
Developer Daniel Blanco has released version 0.8.0 of the DLSS-NR-on-AMD project, expanding its capabilities beyond Neural Rendering. The update brings the full suite of NVIDIA technologies to AMD Radeon hardware, including Ray Reconstruction and Frame Generation, marking a significant milestone for unofficial DLSS implementations.
Key features in version 0.8.0
The latest update ensures that all four primary NVIDIA DLSS technologies are now functional on AMD Radeon hardware. This includes Super Resolution, Neural Rendering, Ray Reconstruction, and Frame Generation (supporting up to 4X Multi Frame Generation).
The implementation relies on custom HIP compute kernels and DirectX 12 integration to run NVIDIA's neural network models on AMD hardware. To streamline the process, the developer introduced NeuralHub, a manager that centralizes required DLL files and allows users to toggle specific features via an in-game overlay.
Performance and compatibility reports
Real-world testing shows varying results. In Cyberpunk 2077, running on a Radeon RX 9070 XT and Ryzen 7 9700X at 1440p with Path Tracing enabled, some users reported no measurable FPS loss when enabling Ray Reconstruction. However, other tests indicated performance drops ranging from 4 to 25 FPS, suggesting that efficiency heavily depends on the specific game and settings.
The mod targets Windows 11 and DirectX 12 titles that support DLSS, FSR, or XeSS. While most compatible games appear to work, certain titles like Alan Wake 2, Resident Evil Requiem, and Pragmata have been identified as exceptions that do not yet work correctly.
Technical limitations and requirements
As this is an experimental project, there are several important caveats for users:
- Hardware Support: The mod is designed for RDNA 3 and RDNA 4 architectures (RX 7000 and RX 9000 series). Support for Radeon RX 6000 is currently being tested.
- User Requirements: Users must provide their own NVIDIA DLSS DLL files for the mod to function.
- Anti-Cheat: Games with active anti-cheat systems may block the mod from running.
- Performance Expectations: Availability of a feature does not guarantee performance parity with GeForce RTX hardware.
